1946: Professor at the Escuela Normal Superior, teaching the subjects of Geography of Colombia and Cartography.

1950: Conducted research in Tumaco, on the Pacific Coast. Initially on Morro Island and later south of Tumaco on a farm located near the Matajes River, on the border with Ecuador. This was the first research conducted on the Tumaco culture in Colombia.

He discovered a cemetery of women and children there, leading to the consideration that the ceremonial pyramid was related to funerary rites.

Later, he moved to the newly established Department of History within the Faculty of Humanities, where he taught courses on Pre-Columbian Social Formations, Introduction to Geography, Anthropology, and others.

1967: Founded the Regional Center for Archaeological Research in Cali, which later became the Archaeological Museum of the University of Valle.

1971: Began his archaeological research in San Agustín.

1994: On July 3, the then Governor of Valle, Carlos Holguín Sardi, awarded him the Orden al Mérito Vallecaucano in the rank of Cruz de Caballero.

1994: On July 6, while bedridden due to illness, he received an Honorary Doctorate in History from the hands of the university's Rector, Dr. Jaime Galarza.

1994: In July, shortly after midnight, Dr. Cubillos passed away at the home of his daughter, Dr. Patricia Cubillos Bernal (a physician), due to pancreatic cancer.
