The Archeological Museum “Julio C. Cubillos” began its work on March 22, 1967 by an agreement signed between the Municipal Companies of Cali and the Universidad del Valle, with the name of Regional Center for Archeological Research. From its beginnings until the year of 1982, when its archaeological collections were transferred to the Meléndez headquarters of the Universidad del Valle, it worked in one of the halls of the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Cali. On December 1, 1986, the Archaeological Museum of the Universidad del Valle was inaugurated on the place where it is today in the Plazoleta de Las Palmas, under the Mario Carvajal Library.
