During the last 40 years, the AMJCC of the Universidad del Valle has been developing a series of archaeological investigations that have obtained a significant number of bone and dental materials. The accumulation of this type of osteological evidence and the need for its preservation for research and extension processes, led to the organization of the Osteoteca Prehispánica de Suroccidente de Colombia, since 2013.

At present, the collection contains about 250 bone assemblages and 220 dental assemblages from the pre-Hispanic Late Quimbaya 1 society (500-1300 AD).
